Setup guide · Verkada POS integration for Square
How to connect Square POS to Verkada Helix
safetill™ is a cloud connector between your Square point-of-sale and Verkada Helix. Each Square payment or refund is posted to Verkada Helix as a timestamped event on the camera covering that till, so in Verkada Command you can search footage by receipt total, item, till or time — for loss prevention, refund review and chargeback evidence. Nothing is installed on tills or cameras.
Setup is four steps in the browser and usually fits in one sitting: a Verkada API key, a Square sign-in, a till-to-camera map and one Helix event. Here is every click.
Before you start
- Org Admin access to Verkada Command, so you can create an API key
- The Square account that owns your locations
- Your Verkada region: United States, United States (Ohio), Europe or Australia

Step 01
Connect Verkada
Create an API key in Verkada Command with Cameras and Helix access, then paste it into safetill.
Open Admin, then API & Integrations → API Keys
Sign in to Verkada Command as an Org Admin. Open the main menu from the grid at the top left and choose Admin. In Org Settings pick API & Integrations, open API Keys and press Add. The API Keys page also shows your organization ID and the region your Command org lives in. Verkada's own walkthrough is in its API Quick Start Guide.
Give the key Cameras and Helix access, then copy it
Name the key so you can recognise it later, add two endpoints and press Generate API. Verkada shows the full key only once, so press Copy on the API Key Created screen and paste it straight into safetill.
- Cameras — Read-Only, so we can list your cameras
- Helix — Read/Write, so we can create the event type and post sales
- Expiration — whatever your policy requires; if it lapses, events queue until you reconnect
Paste it into safetill
In safetill open Connections, paste the key, choose your Verkada region and press Connect Verkada. We confirm Helix access and count your cameras — pick the wrong region and we try the others automatically.
Step 02
Connect Square
Authorize Square with the account that owns your locations. No keys to copy — it's a standard Square sign-in.
Choose Square, sign in and allow access
Press Connect Square and sign in to Square. Square then asks to let safetill view your merchant profile, payments history, orders and device details — press Allow. You land back in safetill with your business name and locations filled in.
- Works with Square Register, Terminal and Point of Sale
- Clover is in beta; Toast, Lightspeed and Shopify POS are coming soon
Step 03
Map tills to cameras
Tell safetill which camera covers each Square device, so every sale lands on the right view.
Point each till at its camera
Your Square devices are listed per location. Pick the camera that watches each till and press Save mapping. One camera can cover several tills, and you can change the mapping any time.
- Missing a device? Use Find my tills or Add till by ID
- Tills without a camera are skipped until you map them
Step 04
Name your Helix event
safetill creates the Helix event type in Verkada for you. From then on every Square sale is posted to it.
Name the event and select its fields
Type the event name as it should appear in Verkada Command, tick the receipt fields to send (up to 10) and press Save event. safetill generates the Helix event type in your Verkada org.
- Receipt-level data only — no card data from your POS
- Already have a matching event type? We ask before creating another
Select the event in Verkada Helix
In Verkada Command open Alerts, click the Helix icon in the top bar, then under Filters → Event Type tick your event. Every Square sale is listed on the camera mapped to that till, at the time it was rung up. Click one to play the footage with the receipt details beside it.
Screens are illustrations with made-up names, keys and IDs.
